The National Football League (NFL) and LA28 have unveiled a new, specially designed emblem that highlights the creative spirit of Los Angeles and celebrates flag football, which will make its debut at the Olympics in 2028. The new, custom-made emblem is featured on LA28.org and joins the LA28 Games“ more than 50 unique emblems. Together, they represent the voices and partners that reflect the host city's vibrant culture, creativity, inclusiveness and self-expression. Flag football, regulated by the International Federation of American Football (IFAF), is an inclusive, accessible and non-contact version of American football that appeals to young people at home and abroad. It is one of the fastest growing sports in the U.S. and abroad, with about 20 million flag football players in more than 100 countries and a gender balance. In 2023, flag football was confirmed as part of the LA28 Olympic sports program, joining more than 50 sports scheduled for 2028. The NFL clubs” resolution allows NFL players to participate in the LA28 tournament. “This emblem is another step in creating enthusiasm and momentum toward LA28, offering fans a new way to feel connected to the sport and the Games,” said Peter O'Reilly, NFL Executive Vice President of Club Business, International, and League Events. “As interest in flag football continues to grow, this emblem helps bring that energy to life and engage fans in what lies ahead.” The new custom-made emblem is inspired by the iconic laces of a football, enveloped by the sport's dynamic, flapping flag, with the vibrant yellow color, as it will be seen in LA. The design captures the speed and energy that characterize the sport, with an emphasis on fast and fluid movements. Together, these design concepts form an emblem that not only pays homage to the sport's recognizable characteristics, but also celebrates its place on the world stage during the LA28 Olympics. “The presentation of this new emblem in partnership with the NFL is an exciting moment on our shared path to 2028 and the Olympic debut of flag football, and adds to the tremendous momentum behind the Games,” said LA28 Chief Athlete Officer Janet Evans. ‘We are proud to partner with the NFL on this design that celebrates the power of sports and captures the athletic momentum that will characterize LA28.’ The LA28 logo, launched in 2020, is inspired by the Los Angeles street layout. The base of the logo consists of a static and powerful L, a 2 and an 8. At the center of the LA28 logo is a dynamic, animated "A," designed for the digital age - an evolving symbol that reflects the energy and innovation that characterizes the LA28 Games.
