Athlete representation

Athlete representation

Within the AFBN, the voice of elite athletes is important. Therefore, in 2025, we will officially establish a Athlete representation on: a group of (former) players who represent the interests of national team players and advise on the league's top sports policy.

This representation is part of the requirements arising from the recognition of the AFBN as an elite sports federation by NOC*NSF. But more importantly, it ensures that players actually have a say in matters that affect them - from selection procedures and coaching to codes of conduct and facilities.

What does athlete representation do?

  • Transfers voice of players to board and management

  • Advises on the top sports statute, selection policy and support

  • Identifies bottlenecks and collaborates on solutions

  • Represents athletes in consultation with other top sports organizations

  • Is point of contact for national team members

The representation works independently and in close coordination with the AFBN technical director and director.

Elections in 2025

In the fall of 2025, the AFBN will host the first elections for athlete representation. All active national team players (flag and tackle) age 16 and older can vote as well as stand for election. More information on candidacy and voting procedures will follow in mid-September 2025.
