Medical Commission

Medical Commission

The Medical Commission of the AFBN is currently in formation. This committee will have an important role in promoting health, safety and medical expertise within our sport. The committee will focus on two main areas: reviewing medical dispensations and assisting clubs in training and deploying medically responsible individuals along the field.

Medical dispensations

In some cases, a player may be temporarily or structurally unable to meet standard playing requirements due to a medical condition or limitation. The Medical Committee will evaluate such applications for dispensation carefully and objectively, considering both the health of the player and the integrity of the league.

Requests for medical dispensation are via a set form and are handled confidentially.

Medical support at competitions

The committee is committed to improving medical supervision at competitions and events.

This includes:

  • Developing guidelines for minimum medical attendance at competitions;

  • encouraging training for first aiders, sports attendants and other first responders;

  • establishing a network of certified medical officers;

  • Sharing knowledge about injury prevention, rehabilitation and acute care.

The goal is to ensure that someone is present at every game who can act appropriately in case of injury or medical incidents.

Along the field: safety first

American football is an intense contact sport. Proper medical preparation is not a luxury, but need. The Medical Committee supports clubs in creating a safe sports environment for players, coaches and officials - from youth to seniors.
