The Gridiron Eredivisie started well with an exciting game between Arnhem Falcons and Utrecht Dominators. The Dominators were eventually 10-7 too strong for the promoter. Both teams did not create much, but with difficulty the Dominators were victorious.

Utrecht therefore takes the lead in the Eredivisie, but will be joined there this weekend. A rematch of Tulip Bowl XXXIX is scheduled in Groningen, when reigning national champion Amsterdam Crusaders travel to Groningen Giants.

One of the two teams nestles at the league's top. According to Amsterdam Crusaders head coach Vito Alfarez, it is not a foregone conclusion that it is necessarily the Crusaders. In an interview with Gridiron.co.uk the coach indicated that he sees a formidable opponent in Groningen. The Crusaders see the competition getting close and therefore are not done in the Netherlands, according to the coach.

Eerste divisie
The Rotterdam Trojans started the season in the first division well. The Wildcats, who were relegated from the Eredivisie last year, lost the opening game 41-12. The game between Hilversum Hurricanes and West Frisian Outlaws was one-sided. The Hurricanes won their first game of the season 26-00. Rotterdam takes the lead in the First Division with the victory. The next time teams from this division will be in action is March 8. Both 0-1 teams will then take on both 1-0 teams with matchups between Rotterdam and West Frisian on the one hand and Hilversum and Maastricht on the other.
