Amsterdam Crusaders wint Tulip Bowl XL

The Amsterdam Crusaders have won Tulip Bowl XL. On home turf, the team from the capital defeated Tulip Bowl rookie Utrecht Dominators 35-13. This is the 23rd time the Cru have become champions of the Netherlands.

The game is decided in the first quarter. After the first quarter, the score is 23-0, thanks to a convincing performance by quarterback Dylan Bakker. With three touchdown passes and one rushing touchdown, he is the MVP of this final.

The Dominators straighten up in the fourth quarter and still give the spectators their money's worth with three consecutive drives. Ultimately, a comeback is no longer possible.

Maastricht Wildcats kampioen Eerste Divisie

The Maastricht Wildcats are champions of the First Division and will have the choice to play in the GridIron Eredivisie next season. After their 38-0 victory over the Hilversum Hurricanes – who are a combined team with the Flevo Phantoms this year – in the Orange Bowl, the team is assured of promotion and can possibly prepare themselves for a season at the highest level.

The game felt over after the first quarter. Hilversum's offense then failed to find the necessary form, even though the Wildcats had taken their foot off the gas.

It's a nice end to the season for Maastricht, who managed to find fantastic form after a difficult start. For Hilversum, the end is bittersweet. The team only lost to Maastricht and couldn't use one of their top three quarterbacks in the final. As a result, the team is stranded in the final for the second season in a row.

Tulip Bowl XL: Amsterdam Crusaders – Utrecht Dominators

Tulip Bowl XL is between the Amsterdam Crusaders and the Utrecht Dominators. Both teams won their semi-finals last Sunday, so they are heading for the final showdown. The final will be held on July 12th in the birthplace of Dutch American football. Kickoff is at 3:00 PM. Photo: Tim van der Togt.

Amsterdam Crusaders is no stranger to the final. The Amsterdammers convincingly won 49-14 against Groningen Giants last Sunday, thus securing their spot in the final once again. When the Cru participate in the Dutch league, they are almost always a lock for the final. This year, the team with a perfect record did not disappoint either. The red-and-whites won all eight games with a goal difference of 224 for and 73 against.

It is for the 31st time in 40 attempts that the reigning national champion is in the final. Of the previous 30 appearances, Amsterdam won 22 finals.

On Sunday, July 12th, they will try to become national champions for the 23rd time against Utrecht Dominators. Utrecht Dominators will be participating in the Tulip Bowl for the first time. The team reached the final by decisively winning against Lightning Leiden. The 24-0 victory for the team from Utrecht means they now have the chance to bring down the intended national champions. In their two previous encounters last season, Utrecht lost both times: 28-6 in Amsterdam and 27-13 in Utrecht.

Eerste en Tweede Divisie op weg naar de ontknoping

The finals of the national First and Second Division American football leagues have been announced.

The final of the national First Division American Football of the AFBN will be between the Hilversum Hurricanes and the Maastricht Wildcats. Both teams will meet on July 5th at 2 PM in the Orange Bowl at the Maastricht playing field. The winner of the match will have the choice of promotion to the Gridiron Eredivisie.

Hilversum Hurricanes reached the final last Sunday by defeating West-Frisian Outlaws in the scorching heat. Maastricht had already reached the final by finishing first in their division. This also earned the Limburg team the right to host the final. Hilversum and Maastricht both have a 6-2 record.

In the rural Second Division, it's already happening on Sunday, June 28th. Nijmegen Pirates is organizing the Windmill Bowl at the Nijmegen playing venue. Nijmegen went undefeated through the regular season with a 6-0 record and is the top favorite to win the division. Opponent Alphen Eagles emerged as ’the best of the rest’ with a 2-4 record and will have to face the ultimate test on Sunday.

Flag Football jeugdfinales 28 juni in Amsterdam

On June 28, the U11 and U15 youth league Flag Football finals will be played in Amsterdam at the Amsterdam Crusaders.

At 10:00 AM, the following semi-finals will be played in the U11 category:

Flevo Phantoms vs. Lelystad Commanders

At 11:00 AM, the following semifinals will be played in the U15 category:

The U11 final is scheduled for 12:15 PM. At the same time, the match for 3rd and 4th place will be played.

AFBN maakt Play-Offs Eerste en Tweede Divisie bekend

The AFBN has announced the Playoffs for the First and Second Divisions.

In the First Division, Hilversum Hurricanes is hosting a home game in the Playoffs. The Hurricanes will play against the West-Frisian Outlaws that day, hoping to secure a spot in the Orange Bowl finals. The Playoffs will take place at the Hilversum playing location.

The Orange Bowl is being organized by the Maastricht Wildcats because they finished first in their pool. The Orange Bowl will take place on Sunday, July 5th at 2:00 PM.

The Second Division Playoffs will take place in Alphen this year on June 14th. At 2:00 PM, host Alphen Eagles will play against Eindhoven Raptors. The game starts at 2 PM, and the winner will face Nijmegen Pirates in the Windmill Bowl. As the convincing number 1 in the division, Nijmegen gets to host the final on Sunday, June 28th.

The Dutch American Football Championship will be held on Sunday, July 12th in Amsterdam, the birthplace of the sport in the Netherlands. Tulip Bowl XL will take place at Sportpark Sloten, the home of reigning national champion Amsterdam Crusaders. The final marks the exciting conclusion of the Gridiron Eredivisie. Kick-off: 2:00 PM.

Homage to the Origin Story of Dutch American Football
The return of the championship game to the capital is a tribute to the place where American football took root in the Netherlands. Even before the first Tulip Bowl was played, Amsterdam enthusiasts gathered at Museumplein and later in Vondelpark to learn and play the sport. American expats helped them master the rules and fundamentals of the game. From those pioneering years, the Amsterdam Rams emerged first, and later, in 1984, the Amsterdam Crusaders. In 1985, the first Dutch American football league kicked off. The first championship game was then still called the Super Bowl and was won by the Amsterdam Rams, at the expense of the Amsterdam Crusaders. From 1986 onwards, the championship game has been named the Tulip Bowl.

“As AFBN, we are pleased with the collaboration between Gridiron and the Amsterdam Crusaders to organize our national finals in the capital. Together we will make it a day worthy of our great sport and on which we can build for the future,” says AFBN director Johan Oosterhuis.

Road to L.A. 2028
A promising period is dawning for American football. Tulip Bowl XL marks the culmination of the first year of collaboration between the American football platform Gridiron and the AFBN. This collaboration aims to make the sport more visible in the Netherlands and give it a strong, recognizable identity. An important catalyst is the Olympic status of flag football, the non-contact variant of American football. Flag football will make its debut at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. In the coming two seasons, Gridiron and the AFBN will further shape the new direction towards L.A. 2028.

Laatste open tackle try-out U20 Dutch Lions zondag 10 mei

There is another open tackle tryout for the U20 Dutch Lions in operation Sunday, May 10th Utrecht. Are you between the 16 and 20 years in the current year and ready to show your talent? This is the last chance this season to show your football talent to national coach Fred Armstrong.

The day consists of position-specific exercises, skill tests, 1-on-1 drills and full scrimmage situations. All of this under the guidance of multiple coaches, including the national coach. A unique opportunity to put yourself in the spotlight for the highest level.

Player License 2026-2027

Everyone who is ultimately selected for the national team must possess a Dutch Lions player license 2026/2027. There are costs associated with this license. This amount must be paid separately.

The license includes:

multiple training sessions on and off the field
practice match(s) in the fall
preregistration for the U21 NFL Academy Trip in the fall of 2026

The cost for this license is € 125,00 per selected player.
